Since we began operations in 1996, we have spoken with tens of thousands of people on our hotline. We speak with teenagers, young adults and people well into their lives. All of them share a common need — to be able to speak openly and confidentially about the feelings, questions and concerns that they have often never shared with anyone else before, to be able to speak with another gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered person (often for the first time in their life) and to be able to hear someone tell them that their feelings are normal.
As all of our telephone peer-counselors are volunteers who donate their time, we can provide an unusually high level of help for each dollar we spend. That makes contributions to us exceptionally effective.
